NCAHU 2015 Sales Symposium

Our Symposium this year is dedicated to informing agents about how to succeed in the coming years with all the changes in health care.  The ACA has had a devastating impact on individual health insurance.  Higher rates coupled with low or no commissions make for tough times for agents.  

Small and large group were less affected but reporting, testing and other HR requirements were added to our clients’ burdens.  Tomorrow’s agent will differentiate herself by providing efficient solutions to these challenges. 

Legislation will continue to flow as Democrats and Republicans fight to make themselves look good while improving or doing away with the ACA.  What can we expect to see in the next 12 months as the bickering continues? 

Our speakers will address these and other issues at our annual Symposium. 


Michael Lujan

Michael is the President of the California Association of Health Underwriters.  He is a is co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer for Limelight Health, a company that provides technology for health insurance agents.  Michael helped establish the California Health Benefit Exchange, now known as Covered California. Finally, Michael was an agent, general agent and Director of Sales for Blue Shield of California and was an outspoken advocate for the agent distribution channel.

Chris Hartmann

Chris has over fifteen years of Capitol Hill experience.  He spent five years as chief of staff to Congressman Rush Holt of New Jersey.  Chris joined the staff of NAHU in 2013. In his position Chris directs NAHU legislative issues on Capitol Hill including the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, Medicare, Medicaid, ERISA, and Children's Health Insurance Program.  He is a frequent speaker at chapter functions all over the country and is regarded as one of NAHU’s best.

Joe Markland

Joe is President and Founder of HR Technology Advisors (HRT).  HRT, founded in 2001, is a leading HR and Benefits Technology consulting and solution provider for employee benefits brokers and their customers. Joe started in the Group insurance business in 1986 with UNUM before moving over to Allmerica Financial. He was one of the early entrants into the Benefits Technology business when he founded StarNex, Inc. in 1997. Joe is considered an industry expert on HR and Benefits Technology. 

Kaya Bromley

Kaya Bromley, J.D., M.S.W., is a compelling speaker who uses humor and a refreshingly interactive style to simplify the Affordable Care Act (ACA), so that agents can walk away with a basic understanding of the law and how it affects their and their clients’ businesses. She has advised hundreds of organizations on how to approach the ACA strategically, so that they properly comply with the law and can find hidden opportunities, such as the ability to create profit centers. Carrier Panel

Last year’s carrier panel was so well received that we have brought them back again this year.  The panel consists of John Newman from Kaiser, Brent Hitchings from Blue Shield, and Tyler Phillippay from United Health Care.  Our panel moderator will be Michael Lujan, President of CAHU.
